Obituary of Steven Kirk Rankin

Steven Kirk Rankin, 60, passed away at his home in Four Seasons, MO on Wednesday April 27, 2011, after a nine month battle with esophageal cancer. Steve was born May 14th, 1950 in Poplar Bluff, MO to Louis and Dorothy Broemmelsick Rankin. He grew up in Dexter MO where he attended schools and graduated from Dexter High School in 1968. He then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where he was a member of the Order of Kappa Alpha and graduated in 1972. In 1975 he began his 31 year career with Allstate Insurance in St. Louis. In 1979 he was married to Jamie Miller and into this union his children Lindsay and Kirk were born. The family moved to the Chicago area, Omaha, Kansas City and back to Chicago following his career. In 2006 he and his wife retired to the Lake of the Ozarks community Four Seasons where he enjoyed golf, boating, fishing and reading history. He made and retained many lifelong and dear friends in each of his locations, many of whom were able to make special trips to see Steve or send letters of their love and memories before his passing, gestures he deeply appreciated. Those who knew him would attest that he was a truly good man. He was well loved for his positive outlook, his kindness, his patience, his loyalty, and his quick sarcastic wit. He is survived by his wife Jamie Rankin of the home, daughter Lindsay Rankin of Brooklyn, NY, mother and sister, Dorothy Rankin and Marcia Walker, of Columbia, MO as well as four cousins and 12 nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Louis Rankin and son Kirk Rankin. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Four Seasons POA Activity Center on Horseshoe Bend Parkway following funeral services at the church. "There will be a visitation outside the sanctuary, an hour before the funeral service primarily for those who cannot attend the Celebration of Life."
