Obituary of Bruce N. Scheiter

Bruce Norman Scheiter, age 79, of Camdenton, Missouri, departed this life on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach, Missouri. Bruce was born August 19, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Norman and Helen (Mueller) Scheiter. Following graduation from Quincy High School in the class of 1949, Bruce moved to California, where he was a brakeman and conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad and Amtrak for 44 years, except for two years of service in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Following his return from the Korean Conflict, Bruce sponsored the admission to the United States of Dong Yong Kim, the Korean boy whom he had come to know as his army unit�s �mascot�. Kim became a citizen of the U.S., later married, and still lives in California. After Bruce�s father died in 1960, his mother moved to Richmond, California to be with him until his retirement, when they moved back to Quincy. In 2010, due to failing health, he moved to Camdenton, where he lived next door to his only sibling, Gene and Margaret Scheiter and his nephew Karl and Sylvia Scheiter until his passing. Bruce loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Christian of the Lutheran faith all of his life. In addition to his brother and nephew, he is survived by nephews David Scheiter of Hannibal, Brian Scheiter and Donna of Laurie, and nieces Cynthia (Scheiter) Hileman and Steve of Overland Park, Kansas, and Rebekah (Scheiter) Beck and John of Farmington, as well as many cousins and their families. Additional services will be held on Thursday, August 11 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy, Illinois-Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m.
