Obituary of William John Stevens
William John Stevens, age 75, was born January 4, 1936 in Iowa City, IA and died December 8, 2011 in Lake Ozark, MO. Beloved father, grandfather, and companion, he is mourned by two surviving children, Beth and Greg Stevens, his close friend Jan Dungan, his sister Luann Harned, nephews, nieces, and seven beloved grandchildren.
Bill worked for many years as a manufacturer�s representative, traveling throughout the Midwest. He was married to Joan Staley Stevens and lived in Webster Groves, MO before divorcing and moving to the Lake of the Ozarks, where he resided for the past 25 years.
In high school and the army Bill was an outstanding athlete, excelling in football and basketball. He later turned to running and tennis which he could continue to enjoy despite back surgeries. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, and he enjoyed spending many leisure hours fishing and floating.
In his retirement Bill enjoyed traveling, volunteer work, watching sports, day-trading, coin collecting, and especially visiting his grandchildren. He was a modest, sincere, and caring man who showed patience, optimism, and determination when faced with declining health. He maintained a wonderful sense of humor throughout his life. He is gone too soon, and he will be deeply and sorely missed.
