Obituary of Thelma June Surls

Thelma June Surls, age 84, of Fortuna, Missouri, formerly Macks Creek, departed this life on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri. Thelma was born June 8, 1927 in Macks Creek, Missouri, the daughter of Melvin Roscoe and Cora Lee (Varner) Meads. Thelma confessed her faith and was baptized September 15, 1957 at the Whisle in Edith, Missouri. Thelma is survived by her husband Melvin �Gene� Surls of the home; five sons, Richard Helms and wife Ruby of Marshfield, Missouri, Jim Helms, Sidney Helms of Lebanon, Missouri, Robert Helms and wife Linda, of Tipton, Missouri, and David D. Surls of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two daughters, Karon Pointer of Windsor, Missouri and Holly Ann (Surls) Cobb and husband Jerry of Montgomery City, Missouri; three sisters, Maxine Coslet of Marshall, Missouri, Rosa Parker of Nevada, Missouri and Virgie DeBrot and husband Larry of Bolivar, Missouri; two brothers, Roy Lee Meads of Harrisonville, Missouri and Daniel Dean Meads and wife, Janie, of Mendon, Missouri; 35 grandchildren and 40 great and great-great grandchildren, along with several other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Barbara May Utterback, and Gloria June Helms; one twin sister, Velma Jane Grayson, and five brothers, Wm. Earnie Meads, Thomas Arnel Meads, Lawrence Eldon Meads, Melvin Oral Meads, and Felix Marvin Meads. Thelma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
