Obituary of Ronal H. Scott

Ronal �Scotty� Harrison Scott�s vibrant soul left this world suddenly on March 26, 2012. At this time, his family and friends are reminded that God gives and takes on His own time. Yet through it all, we will praise the name of the Lord, for He is good. Ronal was born August 18, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Burley and Wilma Scott. One of six children, he was known to his loving family as Ronnie. During his youth, the family traveled extensively for Burley�s work. At one point, they attended six different elementary schools in a single year. Experiences like this cultivated Ronnie into an extremely outgoing person who never met a stranger. During his freshman year of high school in Tulsa, Ronnie joined the wrestling team almost by accident. It was an event that would shape a large portion of his life. Ronnie attended college at Northwestern Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri, where he was an education major and member of the wrestling team. It was during this time that he met his soul make, Dana Rae Ratliff. They were married on July 29, 1967. After college, Scotty (as he was known to most) began teaching and coaching at Mount Ayr Community High School in southern Iowa. He coached several sports including football, baseball, and wrestling�a sport he would coach for the next 35 years. After earning his Master�s degree, he shifted from the classroom to become the school�s guidance counselor in 1987. Through teaching, coaching, and counseling, Scotty touched the lives of thousands of young people. After retiring, Scotty began a second career with Iowa�s Institute for Character Development in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was the Director of Education. He loved his job and, most particularly, conducting trainings with coaches and athletes on achieving Victory with Honor. Scotty was devoted to his faith in God and would occasionally work as a lay minister. Wanting in his words �to finish strong for the Lord,� he entered yet his third career in 2009 as the Midwest Area Director for International Cooperating Ministries (ICM), where he worked at the time of his death. Scotty is survived by Dana, his wife of 44 years of Linn Creek, MO; his sons, Jeff Scott and wife, Sophia, Casey Scott and wife, Ashley, and Craig Scott and wife, Lan Le; grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremiah, Jasmine, Cori, Hope, Naomi, Minh-Chau, Luc, Minh-Lien, and Minh Phuong; his brothers, George Scott and wife, Karen and Jerry Scott and wife, Carol Ruth; his sisters, Markie Moore and husband, Smitty, Becky Elkins and husband, Bob, and Maggie Johnson and husband, Bill; his sister-in-law, Renee Burress; 18 nieces and nephews as well as several other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilma and Burley Scott, his grandparents, and his parents-in-law, Albert and Dorothy Ratliff. Scotty was a great man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Even in death, we know he would want to use this opportunity for more people to know how loving God is and accept the salvation He offered through Jesus.
