Obituary of Cora Mae McGowin

Cora Mae McGowin, age 75 of Osage Beach, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.

She was born March 22, 1942 in Long Beach, California to Hank and Gladys Martz.  The family moved to Osage Beach, Missouri in 1952 where they operated Twin Pine Resort on Lake Road 54-49.  Cora met her current husband when she was in high school.  It wasn’t until November 30, 1996 that Cora was joined in marriage to her high school sweetheart, John McGowin.  They shared over 21 years of marriage at the time of her death. 

Cora was a loving and devoted wife to John and a wonderful mother and grandmother to her children and their families.  Her door was always open to her daughter’s friends as they were growing up at the lake.  Cora loved sewing, baking and working on latch hook projects for her friends and family.  She loved her animals and dearly enjoyed watching the birds in her numerous bird feeders. 

Cora was preceded in death by her parents Hank and Gladys Martz and her brother Darell Martz.  She is survived by her husband John McGowin; daughters Chris Shands and her husband Bill of Omaha, Nebraska; Sandy Griffin and husband Davey of Bryan, Texas; grandson Devon Dockendorf, of Camdenton, Missouri; grandson Garrison Kickham and wife Lia of Austin, Texas; granddaughter Logan Kickham of Bryan, Texas; stepson Alan Carter and wife Deb of Ash Grove, Missouri ; sister Juanita Grote of Osage Beach, Missouri ; several step children and step grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The family will have a celebration of Cora’s life in early summer.
