Obituary of Joseph S. "Joe" Murray

Joseph “Joe” Murray died in his home on May 5, 2018 in Camdenton, MO due to complications following melanoma. He was 68.

Mr. Murray was born on August 26, 1949 in Toledo, OH to his parents, Joseph and BerthaMurray. He graduated from Aquinas College of Grand Rapids, Michigan with a degree in Economics in 1971. He married Cheryl Johnson in 1976. He moved to Denver, CO to start a family while working in pharmaceutical sales. The couple had two boys, JP and Matt Murray. Cheryl passed away in 1993. He remarried to Mary Anne Turner in 1997 and lovingly welcomed her children, Kate and Chris, into the family. He retired in 2007 and soon after made the full-time move to Camdenton, MO where he dedicated his remaining time caring for his children and grandchildren, traveling with his wife, and living life to the fullest on the lake.

Mr. Murray had a natural talent for quickly finding the best in the people he met and enjoyed the art of storytelling. He cherished the time he spent with his friends & neighbors, Jazz Society, Elks Club and church community.

Mr. Murray is survived by his wife Mary Anne Murray; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph “JP” and Nora Murray; his grandchildren, Joseph and Cecelia Murray;  son, Matthew “Matt” Murray;  brothers and sisters, Mary Murray, Carolyn Murray-Slutsky, Ann Murray Eckles, Stephen Murray and Marty Murray; his stepdaughter and her husband, Kathleen “Kate” and Gavin Whiteley and the grandchildren they provided; Spencer and Alyse “Birdie”; and stepson, Christopher “Chris” Turner. He is preceded in death by his first wife Cheryl Johnson.

Mr. Murray will be cremated and placed to rest with his first wife at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, CO. Services will be held on May 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Lake Presbyterian Church in Osage Beach, MO followed by a Celebration of Life held at 710 Summer Place Drive in Camdenton, MO. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Murray’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Kids Harbor Child Advocacy Center where he volunteered to support local children dealing with domestic violence.
