Obituary of George I. (Van) Purvis II
George I. (Van) Purvis II, age 66, of Osage Beach, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Lake Regional Health System, in Osage Beach.
Van was born May 28, 1952 in Independence, Missouri. He was the son of George I. Purvis I and Helen E. (Gattlin) Purvis.
Van was a career police officer, having worked first in the Laurie area, and then for the past 20 years with the Osage Beach Police Department. When he was off-duty, George enjoyed riding his Harley as often as he possibly could, and he also enjoyed reading. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around. One of his favorite things to do was to irritate others for the fun of it.
Van was a proud life-member of the NRA, and a member of HOG (Harley Owners Group) organization.
Van is survived by former wife and best friend Susan Purvis; his daughter Jenifer Purvis Dierks and husband, Bob, of Columbia, Missouri; his son Dennis Wayne Lively and wife, Venus, of Lebanon, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Alex Lively, Nathan Lively, Jordan Meyer and husband Jereth, and Brianna Russell; and 3 great-grandchildren, Zackariah Lively, Khloe Lively, and Kari Russell. George is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Tankersley and husband, George, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, Harriet Ryman and husband, John, of Kansas City, Missouri, Peggy Robb and husband, Randy, of Franklin, Missouri, and Sara Woffard and husband, Mark, of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Helen Purvis and nephew Travis Tankersley.
Celebration of Life services will be held Sunday June 10, 2018 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, Osage Beach, Missouri.
