Obituary of Joyce Marie Thompson

Joyce Marie Thompson, age 83, of Linn Creek, Missouri, died Friday, June 25, 2021 at Eldon Nursing & Rehab in Eldon, Missouri.

 

She was born October 19, 1937 in High Point, Missouri, the daughter of Everett and Tamzel Papen.

 

In 1957 she married Gerald Carlton Thompson in Camdenton, Missouri. They had three children.

 

Joyce attended college in Southern California and was active in retail management for a number of years in both California and Missouri. She moved back to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1984. She was the owner and proprietor of Kountry Kinde Apartments in Linn Creek. She was the mayor of Linn Creek for eight years and among her many accomplishments was the creation of the Linn Creek Memorial Park. Joyce enjoyed crafting, antique and thrift store shopping and was an accomplished seamstress. She loved animals, particularly cats. Joyce relished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Gerald Thompson of Linn Creek; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenyon and Betty Papen of Collins, Missouri.; a sister, Janet Cumper of Osage Beach, Missouri.; her grandchildren, Rachel Thompson of San Antonio, Texas and Chris Thompson of Fort Worth, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Elliyah Vanunu and Elan Vanunu; nephew David Papen and wife Paula; nieces Melanie Wilson, Merri Melvin, Michelle Shepherd and husband, Clint, and Samantha Swetter and husband, Brent.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Carlton Thompson; her daughter, Laura Nelle Thompson; a son, Matthew Bradley Thompson; her parents, Everett and Tamzel Papen; a sister, Bonnie Wilson; and her longtime companion, Jules Becker.

 

The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care and companionship Joyce received from the staff and residents of Eldon Nursing & Rehab.

 

No funeral services are planned.

 

Memorial donations may be made to Dogwood Animal Shelter or the Camdenton Senior Center.
