Obituary of Karen E. Sandy

Karen E. Sandy, 82, of Osage Beach, Missouri, formerly of St. Charles, Missouri, was called to her eternal home on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Lake Ozark Regional Health Systems in Osage Beach, Missouri.

Karen was born May 25, 1939, in Scotia, Nebraska, to Harry C. Ita and Clareta E. (Peck) Ita.

She is survived by her husband, Harold L. Sandy of Osage Beach, children, Michael and Lori (Borgmeyer) Sandy and Dale and Sarah (Bowman) Sandy, grandchildren Megan (Sandy) and Kyle Dobiecki, Michaella (Sandy) and Matthew Stross, Benjamin and Kelsey Sandy, Madeline Sandy and Caleb Sandy, great-grandchildren Elliott Rose Dobiecki and Parker Claire Sandy.  Karen was preceded in death by her father and mother; sister Linda Mae Ita and brother Wendell Jacob Ita.

As the homecoming queen of Scotia High School, she graduated in 1956 and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she met her husband Harold (Vern) Sandy and was married November 24,1960.  Following the birth of their first child, Mike, in 1962 they moved to Bridgeton, Missouri to start a new chapter in their lives.  They moved to St. Charles, Missouri where she gave birth to her second child, Dale, in 1966.  She stayed home with the two children until 1969 when she decided to pursue a career in Cosmetology.  Her career in Cosmetology lasted over 50 years and included much more than just cutting hair.  She worked her way into management in the late 1970’s and purchased her own Salon in 1984.  She also taught hair design and mentored salon owners until she passed.

Karen was a woman of faith and a member of First Baptist Church in St. Charles, Missouri, from 1964-2010 and The Church at Osage Hills from 2010-Present.  Throughout her life she was always involved in the church, starting with the Nursery, moving to Women's ministry and Bible studies and finishing with Prayer groups and other ministries.  She included her faith in all aspects of her life and business, always praying she would make decisions according to His will.  She was the spiritual leader in her family and inspired those around her, leaving everyone better off than before they met.  She spent countless hours praying for those in need and providing daily bible verses to her family via text message.  She provided counsel to many, hosted dinners for small groups and helped in various ways when needed.

She lived a very blessed life following Jesus all the way.  Karen had a marriage of 61 years, a wonderful family, countless friendships, a successful business influencing many people over the years, and decades of church fellowship and ministry.  She chose to use her fight with cancer as an opportunity to minister to all the health care workers she came in contact with and did so until the end.  She trusted God had a place prepared for her in Heaven and left this world in her sleep, just the way she prayed it would happen.  Those of us she left behind will miss her tremendously, but we all know she is with her heavenly Father now and heaven is rejoicing.
