Obituary of Melvin C. Short

Melvin C. Short, age 89, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach, Missouri. He was born October 11, 1918 in Montgomery County, Illinois, a son to Imon Jay and Nancy Sophia (Donaldson) Short. On June 11, 1940 in St. Louis, he was united in marriage to Emma Lou Bunch and together they had shared 67 years at the time of his passing. Melvin had worked as a Superintendent of the mailroom of what is now the Des Moines Register newspaper. He enjoyed traveling, reading and studying and was a biblical scholar. He was an Elder of the Church of Christ in Des Moines, Iowa and recently had attended the Church of Christ in Eldon, Missouri. Surviving are his wife Emma Lou of the home; two sons, Paul Short and wife Mary Jo of Denver, Colorado and Melvin C. Short, Jr. and wife Sally of Naples, Florida; three brothers, Will Short and wife Jan of Des Moines, Iowa, Merle D. Short and wife Willa of Des Moines, Iowa and Earl Short and wife Becky also of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Mildred Creek of California and Etta Dorrell and husband Richard of Des Moines, Iowa, and three grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Hilda Privett and Imogene Sparks; one brother, James Arthur (as an infant) and two brothers-in-law, John Creek and Jacob Sparks.
