Edith Whitworth

Obituary of Edith Pearl Whitworth

Edith Pearl Whitworth, age 98, of Camdenton, Missouri, formerly of Macks Creek, Missouri left her earthly home and rejoined many of her friends and family on Thursday, May 29, 2008, after a short stay at the Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach, Missouri. Edith was born on May 3, 1910 in Branch, Missouri. She was the first child of Elmer and Janie McClanahan. As the oldest of five children, Edith was very helpful to her parents as they operated a farm and general store. Edith was blessed with intelligence and a desire to help and teach others. She received her teaching certificate from Southwest Baptist College and taught grades one through eight in the Macks Creek area. In 1931 Edith was united in marriage to Dock Whitworth, and this union continued for fifty-four years until Docks death in 1985. Edith and Dock had two children. The couple farmed and operated several businesses in Macks Creek and the surrounding area. They and their children, Janie Sue and Larry, became a common sight as they attended many church and community events in Macks Creek. Edith was saved and baptized at an early age, and it was a rare occurrence for her to miss a service as a devout follower of Jesus Christ and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Macks Creek. She taught many Sunday School classes and is remembered as a kind and caring person by her former students. She was a loving mother and always eager to help and encourage her children. She became known and loved as Granny to her grandchildren and had a profound and positive influence in their lives. Edith was an accomplished seamstress. She was also an equally accomplished gardener with a passion for flowers. Edith was a loved, respected, and cherished member of the Macks Creek community for her entire life. Perhaps Edith will be remembered most of all for living her life with dignity and grace as she became the example of how to see the best in all people and situations. Edith was always available to listen, always available to offer comfort, and always available to make others feel loved. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Dock Whitworth; her parents Elmer and Janie McClanahan; three brothers Len, Glenn and Keith McClanahan; and one great grandchild Jim Hawkins. Edith is survived by her sister, Betty Piros of Cortland, Ohio; her children, Larry Whitworth and his wife Betty of Macks Creek, Missouri, and Janie Sue Henderson and her husband Harold of Bolivar, Missouri; one step-daughter; Rosemary Elliott and her husband Otto of Macks Creek, MIssouri;her grandchildren, Steve Henderson and his wife Lori of Bolivar, Missouri, Kim Kahn and her husband Joel of Bolivar, Missouri, Lynn Whitworth, DAnn Hawkins, and Susan Willis and her husband Danny of Macks Creek, Missouri; her great grandchildren, Brooke Wolfe and her husband Josh, Casey Hawkins, Tyler Willis, Holly Webster and her husband Joe, and Baylee, Lindsay and Shelby Henderson; her two great great grandchildren, Abigale and Ava Wolfe, and many nieces nephews and other friends and relatives.
