Obituary of Ruth Claiborne Evington
Ruth Claiborne Evington, 93, of Camdenton passed away June 12, 2008.
She was born June 26, 1914, in the Ganter community near Decaturville, Missouri, the youngest of three daughters of Joseph and Alda Ganter Claiborne. Her sisters, Julia Claiborne and Jane Claiborne Freeman, died in 1940 and 1981 respectively. She attended Union School, Montreal School, and graduated from Stoutland High School in 1931.
On January 4, 1941, she was united in marriage with Gene Evington, who passed away in 1991.
Ruth taught in rural Camden County schools, including Lone Star, Anderson Hollow, and Mt. Tabor. She served as Secretary of the Board for Camdenton Schools, and secretary to the superintendent for 24 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a long-time member and past Sunday School teacher at Buffalo Prairie Baptist Church. Ruth was an active member of her Women on Mission group, Retired Teachers Association, and Women�s Literary Club.
Survivors include her daughters: Sue Evington of Springfield, Missouri, and Nancy Johnston and husband Harold of Linn Creek, Missouri, one grandson Mark Johnston and his friend Donna Ross, also of Linn Creek, Missouri.
