Obituary of George William Major II
George William Major II, 51, passed away November 14, 2008 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Kansas City, Mo. on September 11, 1957 to Glenn W. Major, Sr. and Anne G. (Rhodes) Major.
He lived in Marshfield, Mo as Webster County's 911 Director for the past 4 years. Prior to that, he was a 35 year Lake of the Ozarks resident. After college George worked at his Dad�s company, Osage Asphalt. He began his career path in 1982 as a volunteer firefighter for Osage Beach Fire Department, becoming Administrative Lieutenant and an EMT and finally as dispatcher and 911 Communications Supervisor for the City of Osage Beach. He was one of the founding members of Osage Beach Benevolent Association, serving on the Board of the Osage Beach Fire Protection District, 6 years as President. He was current President of the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials, Missouri Chapter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Glenn W. Major, Jr. and John Gilmore. George is survived by his brother Jack Gilmore, Charlotte, NC, twin sister, Anne Howlett of Liberty, sister Fran Reiter of Kansas City, nephews, Michael, Scott, Derek & Daniel and nieces Sarah, Stephanie, Megan, & Victoria.
