Obituary of Josephine Secrest
Josephine (Jo) Hoell Secrest, age 90, of Osage Beach, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at University Hospital Trauma Center, Columbia, Missouri following serious injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident in Osage Beach on Friday, December 5, 2008.
Josephine was born on August 26, 1917 in St. Louis, Missouri to Hazel Hazen Hughes and David V. Hughes. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David and her sister Roberta.
She graduated from Welston High School in St. Louis. She loved and married Theodore Louis Hoell on February 14, 1941. They have three children, Ted Hoell, Cynde Hoell Hussmann and Bob Hoell. Jo was a homemaker until her husband Ted died in 1963. She was then hired by McDonnell Douglas as a surviving widow and worked there until she retired in 1982. Later she worked for her son, John Secrest, Jr. at Secrest Engineered Products, Inc. in St. Louis.
She found and fell in love with John Secrest, Sr. They were married on February 1, 1974. John and Jo were happily married for 34 years. He was also seriously injured in the accident on December 5, and preceded her in death on December 9, 2008.
John and Jo were residents of St. Louis County until their retirement to Tan-Tar-A Estates in Osage Beach, Missouri in 1987. Josephine led a very active life. She loved to dance, golf, and play bridge with the Half-Century Bridge Club. Jo also loved to entertain and attend the Tan-Tar-A Homeowners�s Association activities. She was a member of the Newcomers/Longtimers Club and of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Jo loved her churches, both Northminster Presbyterian Church in Dellwood and the Lake Presbyterian Church in Osage Beach.
Jo will be missed by her sons and their families, Ted Hoell and Suzanne Wiss of Columbia, Missouri, Bob and Gail Hoell of Fulton, Missouri, John, Jr. and Patricia (Pat) Secrest of Osage Beach, Missouri and her daughter and family, Cynde and Harry Hussmann of Florissant, Missouri, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, her sister Martha Tee of Lenexa, Kansas, nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbors.
The family wishes to thank the emergency responders of Camden County, the Lake Regional Hospital Trauma Center, and the University of Missouri Hospital Trauma Center for their care and loving kindness to Josephine.
