Obituary of Charles Winston Manton

Charles (Chuck) Winston Manton departed this life Thursday, March 19 in the year of our Lord 2009 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born in Bassfield, Mississippi June 24, 1930, the son of Kate and Bruce Manton. Chuck joined the Navy in 1947 and was a control tower operator stationed in Monterey, California. On February 2, 1951 in Pacific Grove, California, he was united in marriage to Clara M. Anderson and together they shared the past 58 years. He worked for the Bell Telephone Company in three states for 35 years retiring from the Camdenton, Missouri office in 1987. He was a member of the Communication Works of America Local Chapter 6314 and of the Andrew Jackson No. 2 F. & A. M. Masonic Lodge of Natchez, Mississippi. Chuck was received as a member of Camdenton United Methodist Church on the 4th day of December 1988. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many in the lake area. Survivors include his loving wife Clara of the home; one brother Joe Manton and wife Louise and two sisters Alberta Franklin and Irene Vantrease, all of Jackson, Mississippi; one daughter, Susan Atteberry and husband Ron of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, Robert and wife Susan of Linn Creek and Charlie and companion Stacy Schumacher of Gravois Mills; five grandchildren Charity Atteberry-Hamman and husband Ben, Josiah Atteberry, Valerie Manton-Amyot and husband Alex, Christa Manton, and Charles David Manton, Jr. and companion Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, Ella Diana Amyot and Saquoia Danielle Manton; one step-grandson, Justin Luvin; special friends Jesse and Katelynn and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carrie Mae Hathorn.
