Lillian Glowacki

Obituary of Lillian Glowacki

On June 6, 2009 Lillian (Swoboda) Glowacki passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and kindness, which seems highly fitting, since those very attributes were the guidelines by which she had lived her life. Truly part of this nations greatest generation she was born in Portland, Oregon in 1925, the third of four daughters born to Mary (Olszewski) and Boleslaw Swoboda. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary Warzala and Leona Kalicki. Her youngest sister, Helen Buitkus, enjoyed the closeness they had shared for decades. In 1947 Lillian married Henry Glowacki, the adoring love of her long and happy life. He will deeply miss the joy that she never failed to bring to him. Her daughters, Catherine Grieve of Brighton, Michigan, and Christine (Charles) Wasem of Smithton, Illinois, have lost not only their mother and dearest friend but also a source of unwavering acceptance, emotional support, and unconditional love that has been a beacon of strength and comfort for them and their children, Ashley Grieve(Michael) Battle, Benjamin Grieve, Kate Wasem, and David Wasem. Her niece, Mary Butkus, and her nephews, William Warzala, Paul Kalicki, Gerry Kalick, Tony Buitkus, and the late Mark Remke were so dear to her, as were her life-long friends, Betty and Ben Ziaja and her dear little Buddy . To love so completely is to leave a legacy a price beyond rubies. Lillian retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she worked as a business service representative. Highlights of her civic and social involvements included serving on many school committees, helping establish the Fairview Heights Library, managing her husbands successful campaign for Fairview Heights Alderman, and membership in the Polish National Alliance (PNA) and the Polish-American Ladies Society (PALS).
