Obituary of Barney G. Benton

Barney Garland Benton, Jr., of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at his residence, at the age of 66. He was born November 21, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona, a son to Barney Garland Benton, Sr. and Only (Murphree) Benton. Barney was united in marriage on September 8, 1964, to Julia Tilden, who preceded him in death on March 8, 2007. Barney was President and CEO of Community Bank of the Ozarks in Sunrise Beach, Missouri. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sunrise Beach for many years and in his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving, are daughter, Kay Black, of Camdenton, Missouri; grandchildren, Jerri Black, Benjamin Black, and Anthony Black; brother, Bob Benton and wife Donna, of Shell Knob, Missouri; two sisters, Rose Ann Stiles of the state of California and Karen Sue Ratliff of Wichita, Kansas, along with many other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Julia, and one son, Samuel. Barney was a loving, father, grandfather and brother and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate the life he lived and will cherish the memories he created for his family and friends.
