Obituary of Sally M. Ashby

Sally Marie (Powers) Ashby died in her home at Lake Ozark, Missouri on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the age of 81. Sally was born on February 2, 1928 in Ames, Iowa. She was the daughter and only child of the late John Leslie and Gertrude Madelyn (Kelleher) Powers. She was united in marriage to Robert H. Ashby on July 12, 1947 in Columbia, Missouri. Sally is survived by nine children: Robert Henry (Hank) Ashby and wife Marilyn, Mary Ellen Holt and husband Ed, and Linda Jane Spry all of California; John David Ashby and wife Meredith of Atlanta, GA; Elizabeth Ann Moreland and husband Ron, James Gerard Ashby and wife Sheran, and Marjorie Clair Huffman and husband Gary all of St. James, Missouri; Sarah Powers Piazza and husband Paul of O�Fallon, Missouri, and Matthew Turner Ashby and wife Melanie of Ozark, Missouri. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Mary Elizabeth Walsh and husband Tom of Kansas City, Missouri, and RoseMary Bond of Sarasota, Florida; as well as by twenty-six grandchildren and eighteen great-grand children, with two more great-grandchildren on the way at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Henry (Bob) of 56 years, and an infant son, Mark Ernest Ashby. Sally was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother, who devoted her life to her family. She was a devout Catholic, and was very involved with her parish at Our Lady of the Lake. She was also co-owner of Rosati Winery and Prairie View Farms in St. James, Missouri, for many years. She and her late husband, Bob, resided in St. James most of their married life, until they retired and moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1989, where she resided at the time of her death.
