Obituary of Larry D. Hoopingamer
Larry Dwight Hoopingarner, age 70, of Eldon, Missouri, died Saturday, February, 20, 2010 at home.
He was born November 24, 1939, in Elkhart, Kansas, to Julia Halderman Hoopingarner and Dwight Hoopingarner, Manter, KS. He attended school in Manter, graduating from Manter High School in 1957. He attended the University of Oklahoma.
On February 29, 1964, he married Connie Lynne Hoch in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in Manter, KS, raising six children until 1993 when moving to Eldon, MO. He was very generous and believed in serving the community. His service included Mayor of Manter, KS for over 20 years, being an EMT, Volunteer Fireman and Deputy Sheriff, Johnson Airport Board Member, School Board Member for USD 452, Stanton County Golf Course Board Member, and Volunteer Golf Coach for Stanton County High School.
He enjoyed several activities throughout life, including Drag Racing where he won the 1967 AA Funny Car Winter National Champion in Pamona, CA., he was a licensed pilot, past member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, was an enthusiastic Golfer eventually becoming a Certified Golf Instructor, and being an avid Trap Shooter. He was a member of the Missouri Trap Association, American Trap Shooters Association, Missouri Skeet Shooters Association, Member of Prairie Grove Shooting Sports, Amateur Skeet Shooters of America, and a member of the NRA. He was also a loyal follower of KU Basketball.
He farmed and ranched for many years in the family operation in SW Kansas. He later became a licensed Insurance Agent and then a Finance and Insurance representative. At the time of his death he was employed by the Eldon Country Club.
Survivors include his wife Connie, of the home; granddaughter Haley Hoopingarner of the home and Smokey his cat; brother, Frank Hoopingarner, Manter, KS; son Larry Alan Hoopingarner and Joni Blake, Overland Park, KS; daughter Lori Rahjes and husband Ken of Elwood, NE; son Lindsay Hoopingarner and wife Traci of Cimmaron, KS; son Lance Hoopingarner and wife Brenda of Otis, KS; son Lyle Hoopingarner of San Francisco, CA, and daughter Lisa Compton and husband Bill Jr. of Hickory, NC.; grandchildren, Eric and Tania Hoopingarner, Gayle and Chris Atkins; Will, Grant, Sarah and Matthew Rahjes; Jacob and Whitney Lett, Matthew Lett, Paige Addison, Ashlyn Hoopingarner, Victoria Hoopingarner; Landon, Seth and Jake Hoopingarner; Alyssa Jones, Billy Compton III, Justin Compton and Danielle Compton; great grandchildren, Xivi Matos, Yaimary Matos and Yuniel Hoopingarner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Julia Hoopingarner.
