Obituary of Troy Gene Simmons
Troy G. Simmons was born October 16, 1934, in Branch, Missouri to Stephen and Winona (Dickey) Simmons. He died March 5, 2010 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of 75 years.
Troy was united in marriage to Marjorie N. Smith on April 9, 1960.
Troy moved to Independence, Missouri in his teens. He spent a short time in the Navy and he joined the Army and was discharged in 1958. He returned home after serving in the Army and worked at various jobs in Fairyland Park every summer. He also worked for a period of time at M & M Box Company. Troy retired after 15 years with the Kansas City Stockyards, and also retired from Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Winona Simmons; one son, Steven; a daughter, Shirley Bailey and his brother, Paul Dean Simmons.
Troy is survived by his wife Marjorie, of the home; sisters, Dorothy L. Morgan and husband Harold of Preston, Missouri, and Adolene Moulder and husband Donald of Roach, Missouri; brother, Stephen N. Simmons and wife Michele of Raymore, Missouri; daughters, Nancy N. VanDeventer and husband Larry of Warrensburg, Missouri, Sandra Green of Independence, Missouri, and Paula Wheeler of Holt, Missouri; sons, Danny Bailey and wife Jeana of Greenridge, Missouri, Charles L. Van Artsdalen and wife Caroline, and Donnie Van Artsdalen of Independence, Missouri; 39 foster children, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
Troy had many interests including trains, as well as attending train shows, camping, collecting pens, woodworking and keeping a scrapbook of history and unusual stories. He loved telling jokes. More than anything though, he loved his family and spending time with them.
