Obituary of Donald E. Hirner

Donald E. Hirner, age 82, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Osage Beach Health Care Center, Osage Beach, Missouri. Don was born, May 2, 1929 in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of Arthur J. Hirner and Thelma (Hoffman) Hirner. Don is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; a son, Donald Clay Hirner and wife, Mallory, of Spring Hill, Kansas; a son, Ronald Dean Hirner of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Rebecca Leigh Hirner of Lee�s Summit, Missouri; three step-children, Mary Hulett and husband, Roger, of Kaiser, Missouri, Teresa Schroeder and husband, Erich, of Stilwater, Kansas and Doug Kleen of Nevada, Missouri; five grandchildren, Abigal Dogruoz and husband, Direnc, of London, England, Danny Hirner of Gardner, Kansas, Connor and Sydney Hulett of Kaiser, Missouri and Alexis Schroeder of Stilwater, Kansas. He also has three great-grandchildren in London, England. He is also survived by his brother, Harley Wayne Hirner of wife, Evelyn, of Hannibal, Missouri and a sister, Dolores Faye Hirner Bradley of Hannibal, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents of Hannibal, Missouri. Don had a B.S. in business from University of Missouri, Columbia. He served in the Marines for 2 years. He went to work for General Motors and spent 35 years with them. He was a service manufacturing executive with experience in automotive production, management and service. He had an outstanding reputation as a leader who never failed to achieve company goals and objectives. He retired in 1987 after running plants in Missouri, Kansas and Michigan. After he retired, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking. He and Shirley over-saw construction of their villa in Lake Ozark and rehabbed 3 properties in Branson, Missouri. They traveled extensively and enjoyed RV traveling for 11 years with their beloved dog, Goldie.
