Obituary of William Leonard Smith

William Leonard Smith, age 69, of Macks Creek, Missouri, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri. Bill was born December 18, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Oliver Robert Smith II and Mary (Herin) Smith. Bill was united in marriage to Diana Harvey on November 4, 1967; she preceded him in death on September 18, 2003. Bill served his country proudly in the United States Marines from 1959 thru 1964. Bill enjoyed watching animals and collecting strays. He loved gardening, bird watching, reading western novels and watching old western movies. He was in the process of writing a book on the Civil War which included his family. He was a jokester, but loved to help people; he never meet a stranger. He loved his family dearly and many times gave his sons advice and a listening ear. His grandkids called him �Papa Sugar Booger� Bill is survived by his sons, Billy and wife, Debbie, and Bobby and wife, Kate, both of Holt�s Summit, Missouri, and Chris (CD) and wife, Michelle, of New Bloomfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his brother�in-law Bruce Harvey and wife, Gabby, of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Rosemary Malone and husband, Toby, of St Peters, Missouri;sister-in-law Kay Ellen Murphy and husband, Dave, of Edwardsville, Illinois; many nieces and nephews, along with several other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Diana, and one brother, Oliver Robert Smith III
