Obituary of Emma McClara Barton

Emma McClara Barton, age 91, departed this life Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Laurie Care Center, Laurie, Missouri. Emma was born July 14, 1921 in DeQuoin, Illinois to Harry Gulley and Maymie Marrs and was the oldest of fourteen children. Her mother died when she was just eleven and she always felt responsible for all her siblings. Emma spent most of her childhood in St. Louis. On July 20, 1940, she was united in marriage to Don E. Barton in Piedmont, Missouri. They were married 59 years when he passed away, May 15, 1999. They moved to Orange County, California in 1961 and remained there until 1982, when they retired to Lake of the Ozarks. Emma was a homemaker, Girl Scout Leader, Sorority Sister and professional seamstress. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for all those who knew her. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Oliver, Ben, and Bill Gulley; and two sisters, Betty Wyman and Verna Towell. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Danny Bowers, Linn Creek, Missouri and son and daughter-in-law Eugene and Linda Barton, Lake Ozark, Missouri; sisters, Imogene, Myrtle, Grace, Cleta, and Kathy; and brothers, Eugene C. (Putzie), and Kenneth.
