Obituary of Frank J. Mangold
Frank J. Mangold, Jr. long-time Lake Ozark Missouri resident and business owner departed this life on Thursday, February 7, 2013.
Frank was born October 30, 1920 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Frank J. Mangold, Sr. and Flora B. (Gowen) Mangold. He attended Christian Brothers in St. Louis, Missouri.
Frank was united in marriage on December 26, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri to Helen Henderson and together they shared 70 years of marriage until his death.
Frank had served his country proudly in the United States Navy. He was part of the "Greatest Generation"
Frank made his first trip to the Lake at the age of 16, selling his bicycle to finance the trip. He fell in love with the Lake and all it had to offer, thus beginning a long lasting relationship with the area. In 1950 he made the Lake a permanent home, for himself, his wife, and his daughter.
Frank owned and operated his own business, L.O. Gas Co. in the lake area since the 1950's. He was the first depositor at the Bank of Lake of the Ozarks in Lake Ozark, Missouri. He was a past member of the Eldon Country Club, and he was instrumental in planning the building of the now existing Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. He was past president of the Arrowhead Beach Club Homeowners Association. Frank was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Ozark, Missouri and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Mangold was a devout Catholic who would stop on his way to work for a moment of silent prayer at the original chapel of Our Lady of the Lake. Upon retirement, he attended daily mass.
Frank was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf. When he no longer played the game he watched weekly golf matches on T.V. with his neighbor and long time friend Dr. Otis Moseley. He enjoyed a good game of cards, listening to Tiger football on the radio, working circle puzzles, gardening and going to garage sales. He loved the warm weather, and he and his wife traveled to Florida for many years to spend the winters, returning to the Lake when spring and warm weather had arrived.
