Obituary of George Leroy Hicks

George Leroy Hicks, age 79, of Independence, Missouri, formerly of Macks Creek, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. George was born October 27, 1933 in Macks Creek, Missouri, the son of Vinal and Inez (Heimbaugh) Hicks. George was united in marriage on April 3, 1954 in Red Top, Missouri to Laureita Seaton, and together they shared 59 years of marriage until his death. George served his country proudly in the United States Navy. George worked for Sears in Kansas City, Missouri for 39 years as a carpenter and painter. George enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping and skiing with his family, gardening, and biking on the Katy Trail with his granddaughter. George was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and a wonderful caring friend. George is survived by his loving wife Laureita; two daughters, Gloria Hicks and Jeff of Plano, Texas and Brenda McCracken of Parkville, Missouri; one granddaughter, Kelsey McCracken; one brother-in-law Bob Seaton and Helen of Independence, Missouri; two brothers Wila Hicks of Macks Creek, Missouri and Fred Hicks and wife, Billie, of Buffalo, Missouri. George was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Louis, Roma and Wayne; and one brother-in-law, Bill Seaton. The first of two visitations will be held Monday, April 15, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Park Lawn Funeral Home in Kansas City, Missouri.
