Carl was born to Gaylon and Hazel Knapp on November 22 1930. Carl was adopted at a very early age by Charles & Harriett Vach of Buckhorn, Missouri. Carl attended school in Waynesville, Missouri and graduated from Waynesville High School in 1949. Carl has many life long friends still in the Waynesville area. To those friends he was known by his nick name Buzz or Boilermaker.
Carl served his country proudly in the US Air Force during the Korean War, after which he returned to his Missouri roots.
As adventurous as Carl was, he and a friend decided to make a trip to California. While there, Carl was employed by Standard Oil Company at one of their refineries. While still in California, Carl met the love of his life, Dianne Esterberg, on June 15th they were joined in wedded bliss and stayed that way until Dianne's passing on April 9, 2009.
When Carl and Diane retuned to Missouri, he was employed in the civil service on the post of Fort Leonard Wood as a Boiler Plant Operator and then supervisor until his retirement in 1986.
While living and working in the Waynesville and Richland areas, Carl was an avid member of the Pulaski County/ Ft Leonard Wood Shriners, serving in their motorcade. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed CB and Ham Radio where it was his nightly ritual to turn on his radio and talk to friends and family as well as make new friends all around the world!
Carl was preceded in death by his wife Dianne; his parents; his adoptive parents; two step- brothers, Fred and Charles Vach; and one step-sister Mae Walton.
He is survived by his only daughter from his union with Dianne, Pamela Flanary and her husband, Shawn; his Grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Shawn Patrick, and Kordel Flanary, who will miss their Grandpa greatly.
