Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Kahrs

Elizabeth Ann (Miller) Kahrs departed this life with grace and peace, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 14, 2013. She was born November 27, 1928 in LaGrange, Illinois to Ray E. and Wilma (Russell) Miller. Liz graduated from University High School in University City, MO in 1946. She attended Gulf Park College for Girls in Gulfport, Mississippi. In 1947, she transferred to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Upon graduation, she was an advertising copy artist for Scruggs, Vandervoort, Barney. On October 4, 1952 she married James W. Kahrs and moved to Mexico, Missouri where they resided until 1953 when they bought Turkey Bend Minnow Hatchery in Osage Beach, now known as Osage Catfisheries. In addition, they later built Sycamore Creek Golf Club. Liz was a long time member of Harper Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher for many years and loved being a member of the church�s Readers� Circle. In addition to raising the couples� four children, she was active in the family businesses, and spent many hours painting and gardening. She is survived by her children Jody (Denny)Hanner, Pete (Danna) Kahrs, and Steve (Traci) Kahrs, her daughter-in-law Karen Kahrs, granddaughters Andrea Kahrs Weiss (Chris) and Elizabeth Kahrs, and great-granddaughter Emma Weiss. Also surviving are her sister, Mary Ziervogel, sister-in-law Marge Pledge and husband Gus, and several nieces and nephews. Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Wilma Miller, step-mother Norma Miller, her husband Jim and son John. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
