Obituary of Emma Lou Short

Emma Lou (Bunch) Short, aged 93, died peacefully Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Osage Beach, Missouri, after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure. She was born on a farm February 18, 1920, in Camden County near Richland, Missouri. She was the third of four daughters born to Ballard and Mabel (Striegel) Bunch. In 1926, her parents moved the family to Saint Louis, Missouri. Emma Lou married Melvin C. Short on June 11, 1940, and then joined him in Des Moines, Iowa, where they made their home for the next 52 years. In 1992, they relocated to The Lake of the Ozarks, in Missouri. They were married nearly 68 years. Emma Lou was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. She was a volunteer for Charter Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and later for Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri. She loved reading, sewing, quilting and travelling. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her parents, her three siblings and their spouses. Emma Lou is survived by her two sons and their wives, Melvin, Jr. and Sally, Naples, Florida, and Paul and Mary Jo, of Aurora, Colorado, as well as grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Emma Lou was interred in Saint Louis, Missouri following graveside services. No other services or visitations were held at her request.
