Obituary of Jimmie D. High

Jimmie D. High of Camdenton was born to Elmer and Thelma (Williams) High on October 9, 1934 in Cushing, Oklahoma. In 1938, Jim and his family settled in Gainesville, Missouri in Ozark County. Although Jim moved from Ozark County many years ago, he often referred to Ozark County as home and his fondness for the area and its people never diminished. He could quickly capture the full attention of anyone nearby whenever he began to tell a story about his life in �Booger County�. On Sunday, September 2, 2013 Jim left this earth surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him so dearly. Jim enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and proudly served his country and its people in Korea. In 1958, he returned to Ozark County and married the love of his life, Jessie Sievert. After marrying, Jim and Jessie relocated to Lee�s Summit, Missouri where he opened and operated High Construction. It was during this time that he and Jessie started their family that Jim so loved and adored. Jim, Jessie and their 3 children moved back to Gainesville in 1973 where Jim worked as a cattle farmer. Jim had a love for calf-roping and competed in the rodeo circuit. In 1978, Jim and Jessie made a bold decision to move to Camdenton and help his brother, Pete High, establish Ozark Construction and the Plywood Barn. Success soon followed due to Jim�s hard work and dedication. It was a very proud moment for Jim when in 1981 his son, Mike, joined the family business. In 1991, Jim opened the doors to High Brothers Lumber. Among all his wonderful accomplishments, Jim was a successful business man who believed in taking the time to walk thru the store and shake the hands of his customers as a show of appreciation for their business and loyalty to him. Jim became a founding member and the first Deacon of the Bible Baptist Church of Camdenton. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jessie. His children; Mike (Olivia) High of Camdenton, Jana Hunter of Camdenton and Jamie (Dave) Hofmann of Overland Park, Kansas and the grandchildren he cherished; Crystal, Jim Michael, Colten, Mariah, Carly, Alyson and great-grandchildren Kayla and Camryn. Jim is also survived by his siblings; Mary Stewart, Maxine White, Pete High, Lonnie High and Linda Mullins. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his older brothers Archie High and Leroy High. Jimmie D. High was a man who touched the lives of many, many people and will forever be remembered for his love of God, his willingness to help those in need, his hard work ethic and his boundless generosity. He was a rock for so many and will be sadly missed by all that knew him, loved him and treasured him. Just as he did on Earth, Jim will continue to watch over us, guide us and protect us. Until we see him once again, may we never forget the sweet and wonderfully kind man he was.
