Obituary of John R. DeGraffenreid

John Riley DeGraffenreid, age 90, of Brumley, Missouri passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at his home in Miller County, Missouri. John was born on April 1, 1923 in Eldon, Missouri, the son of Louie L. and Cora Alice (Barnett) DeGraffenreid. He was the second of four siblings. On November 14, 1942, he was united in marriage to Betty Rosemary Ormord, and together they shared 58 years of marriage. John graduated in 1940 from School of the Osage and served on the school board from 1955 until 1963. John was a lifelong resident of the area. John proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II in England. John accepted Christ as his Savior and was a long time member of Riverview Baptist Church in Osage Beach, Missouri where he served as deacon and many other areas within the church throughout his life. His love and dedication to his family were of utmost importance in his life. John was an avid steam enthusiast, farmer and machinist. He enjoyed taking his great-grandchildren for rides on his John Deere gator on the farm. John is survived by his son David and wife Betty DeGraffenreid and daughter Cathy DeGraffenreid all in Miller County, Missouri; five grandchildren, Lori Allen and husband Jason of Kaiser, Missouri, Amy Keeth of Osage Beach, Missouri, Mark DeGraffenreid and wife Kristin (Gartner) of Sedalia, Missouri, Katie Patterson and husband Adam of Iberia, Missouri, Lindsey McDaniel and husband Steven of Springfield, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob Riley, Jordan Allen, Lexi, Ashlyn and John Riley DeGraffenreid, Cayden and Henry Patterson, Steven Riley McDaniel; one brother Tennyson and wife Vivian DeGraffenreid of Brumley, Missouri; sisters, Mary Rutter, Osage Beach, Missouri and Katherine Powell and husband Joe of St. Charles, Missouri; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. John is preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
