Obituary of Andrew Russell George

Andrew (Andy) Russell George, age 89, of Dixon, Missouri, departed this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at St Luke�s Medical Center, in St. Louis, Missouri. Andy was born February 19, 1924, in Newtown, Missouri, the son of Andrew and Mary (Wright) George. Andy was united in marriage to Dorothy Slone, on August 25, 1941 and together they shared 68 years of marriage until Dorothy�s passing on December 26, 2009. Andy joined the United States Army on February 28, 1943, during World War II. He hit Omaha Beach on D DAY, among the first wave. He received many medals during his time of service, including 5 Bronze Battle Stars. Andy made a career as an over the road truck driver and bus driver. After retiring, he drove the bus for the Sheltered Workshop and served on the Board with Dorothy for many years. In more recent years, Andy became very active in the American Legion and served at military funerals all around the area. One of his greatest memories was being taken on the Honor Flight to Washington DC. Andy was a member of Word of Life Fellowship Church in Dixon, Missouri. He will be greatly missed as part of the congregation, but now is a member of Heaven�s Kingdom. Andy is survived by his two sons, Russell and his wife, Lendy, of Jasper, Missouri, and Gregory and his wife, Pam, of Dixon, Missouri; his granddaughter Amy George of St. Louis, Missouri; four step grandchildren, and ten great-step-grandchildren; one brother, Darrel; four sisters, Helen, Donna, Karen and Gloria; along with many other friends and relatives.. Aside from his wife Dorothy, Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary George.
