Obituary of Dorothy W. Kerr
Dorothy W. Kerr departed this life Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Boone Hospital, Columbia, Missouri.
Dorothy was the daughter of Clarence and Frances Savage of Independence, Missouri. She graduated from William Chrisman High School, and held degrees in Speech, Dramatics and English from Graceland University and the University of Kansas. She entered the graduate program at KU and while working on a Master�s degree, became an Instructor in the English Department. Later she taught in the San Bernardino, California Schools and was a Dramatic Coach.
She married Richard A. Kerr while they were at KU. They lived many years in Independence, Missouri and then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota for a number of years. At that time Dorothy went into the field of Training and Development and was a Training Director for Dayton-Hudson and Marshall Fields. Because her husband was recruited by a company in Kansas, they moved back to that area and lived in Lenexa, Kansas. When her husband retired, they built a house at the Lake of the Ozarks and moved there. Dorothy became a real estate agent first with Coldwell Banker and then with Innovative Real Estate in Camdenton. For many years she and her husband were avid golfers and member of Lake Valley Country Club. Dorothy was a Music Director and Organist for the RLDS Church in Minneapolis and the Community of Christ in Camdenton. She was active with the Lake of the Ozarks Board of Realtors, was an Executive Board member of the Lake Arts Council, the Independence Junior Service League, American Society of Training and Development, National Association of Parliamentarians, and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was a member of Harper Chapel United Methodist Church in Osage Beach. During the past several years she organized, presented and played in 12 Community Organ and Piano Concerts for Lake Arts Council.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, her mother, and her husband. She is survived by two sons, Brian Kerr of Camdenton, Missouri and William Kerr of Portland, Oregon; one brother; a niece and nephew and many cousins.
