Obituary of Helen L. Petty

Helen L. Petty, age 93, Versailles, Missouri, departed this life Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Good Shephard Nursing Home in Versailles. Helen was born October 1, 1920 in Silverdale, Missouri, the daughter of John W. and Nora Belle (Vanover) Miller. Helen was united in marriage March 28, 1941 in Cardwell, Missouri to J.L. Petty. They shared 54 years of marriage together until his death, March 30, 1995. Helen was baptized at an earlier age, and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Lake Ozark, Missouri. Helen taught Junior High English and Journalism in both the Kennett, Missouri, and Jefferson City, Missouri public schools. She was a lover of reading and poetry and had written several poetry pieces her self. Helen was a member of Eastern Star in Camdenton and Gideon International. Helen was a loving and devoted, wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. She will be forever remembered and sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Helen is survived by two sons; John L. Petty and wife, Betty, of Sedgwick, Arkansas and Jim Petty and wife, Linda, of Versailles, Missouri; one daughter, Judy Elliott and husband, Bruce, of Lake Ozark, Missouri; six grandchildren, Charles Petty and wife, Valerie, of Sedgwick Arkansas, Dr. Corwin Petty and wife, Rachel of Springdale, Arkansas, Lisa Attaway and husband, Rev. Craig Attaway, of Wildwood, Florida, Tim Petty and wife, Nicole, of Jefferson City, Missouri, Matt Petty, and wife, Laurie, of Lee�s Summit, Missouri, and Margo Arauz and husband, Anthony, of Lake Ozark, Missouri; sixteen great-grandchildren; along with several other relatives and friends. Aside from her husband J.L., Helen was preceded in death by her parents John and Nora Belle Miller; five brothers, John Miller, Luther Miller, Wes Miller, Jess Miller and Lindy Miller; and four sisters, Katie Ford, Mary Lee Hill, Ella Mae Crotts, and Hazel Miller.
