Obituary of Mildred Joan Shafer

Mildred Joan (Jo) Shafer, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at home in Camdenton, Missouri, after a brief struggle with Leukemia. Jo was born February 6, 1933, in Golden City, Missouri, the daughter of Elmo and Lorene (Hall) Nutt and was one of five sisters. The daughter of a dairy farmer, Jo graduated from high school in 1951, where she was the co-founder of the Golden City Saddle Club. Jo was a well-known school bus driver in the Ruskin School District in Kansas City from 1960 until 1973. After moving to the Laurie, Missouri area in the 1980�s, Jo was a visible part of the community where she ran a local convenience store on Hwy 5. Jo was a friend to all; always with a joke or a �poke� that made everyone smile. In 1952, Jo met and married the love of her life for 62 years, Theodore (Ted) Shafer (WWII Navy Veteran) where they lived in Kansas City until 1974 before moving back to Golden City and eventually to the Lake of the Ozarks where they owned and operated Shafer Painting. Jo is survived by her husband Ted Shafer and four children; Gregory Shafer of Camdenton, Missouri, Steven (Kamala) Shafer of Palm Bay, Florida, Thea (Michael) Carter of Overland Park, Kansas, and Millette Witte of Camdenton, Missouri. She is also survived by her sister Connie (John) Lee of Tyler, Texas; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
