Obituary of John Thomas McCrory
John Thomas McCrory, age 92, of Camdenton, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Osage Beach Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Osage Beach, Missouri.
John was born in Old Linn Creek, Missouri on January 2, 1922, the son of John Steven and Maude (Ezard) McCrory.
John attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri, and later went on to graduate from college in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1942 where he served with the Army Engineers during World War II then serving in North Africa for 18 months. Joh held rank of Sergeant upon being honorably discharged on January 11, 1946.
John was united in marriage to Rosalie Bennett on October 20, 1944 in Harrison Arkansas, who preceded him in death April 5, 1998. John and Rosalie had one daughter Jonalie Weddle who also preceded him in death in August 2001.
John was a well known businessman who owned and operated McCrory Ford Sales and McCrory Chevrolet and Oldsmobile Dealerships in Lebanon and Camdenton. He also owned a Ben Franklin Dime Store, McCrory United Super Grocery Store, and an ice cream shop in the McCrory Shopping Center located in Camdenton. John and Rosalie were also the first owners of the White House in Lake Ozark, Missouri, a Lake of the Ozarks Icon. John was a past member of the First National Bank Board and had served the people of Camden County as Camden County Collector for 16 years.
John was an active member of several organizations including Linn Creek Lodge 152, where he received his 50 year Mason pin, Abou Ben Adhem Temple- Shriners, Scottish Rite Free Masonry, Lake of the Ozarks Shrine Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and a 68 year member of the Elks Lodge.
John was a member of Camdenton Community Christian Church.
John is survived by his grandchildren Jerilie Humbard and her husband, Dexter, of Camdenton, Missouri; his great-grandson, Justin Humbard of Camdenton; his great-granddaughter Jaimie DeGuire of Camdenton; one sister, Mildred Lewis of the state of Florida; along with other relatives and friends.
John was a generous person; always willing to help people in need. His greatest joy was his family.
