Obituary of G.D. Parrack

Reverend G.D.Parrack, Jr., age 92, of Springfield, Missouri, departed this life Sunday, September 21, 2014 at his home in Springfield. G.D. was born May 4, 1922 in Macks Creek, Missouri, the son of Gentry Davis Parrack, Sr. and Dona Ellen (Kerr) Parrack. G.D. served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 as Corporal Chaplain Assistant during WWII. He was united in marriage December 17, 1945 to Virgie Russell who preceded him in death April 3, 1993. He later married Betty Bernard who preceded him in death in 2012. G.D. grew up in the Macks Creek area and began his ministry at First Baptist Church of Macks Creek. G.D. felt the Lord�s calling on his life and followed by graduating from both Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar and William Jewel College in Liberty with undergraduate degrees, and from there Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas with his graduate degree. His life�s work took him across the state of Missouri beginning as Pastor at Grant City First Baptist Church, as Director of Missions in Maryville, as Pastor at Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church and finally as Director of Missions in Cape Girardeau. Upon retiring from full-time ministry, G.D. continued to minister in various locations. G.D. had also written a book titled, Rediscovering God�s Love. G.D. enjoyed socializing and spending time getting to know people. He was a true �people person�. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes along the way. G.D. was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a caring friend to all who knew him. His ministry and pastoral care touched the lives of many who served alongside him. G.D. is survived by his daughters Judy Dill of Livingston, Texas, Joyce Barker and husband Robert of Republic, Missouri, Patty Yocum and husband Randy, of Reeds Springs, Missouri, and Becky Leonard and husband, Jim, of Eureka, Missouri; his sister Geraldine Asher of Camdenton, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; along with several other family members and many friends. Aside from his wives; G.D. was preceded in death by his father Gentry Davis Parrack, Sr. and his mother Dona Parrack, his daughter Ellen Kay Hartman Shaw; his brother Vaughn Parrack, and his sisters, Jewell Waldren, Colleen Newton, and Velva North.
