Obituary of Wallace J. Roofener

Wallace J. Roofener, son of Floy and Elvira Drennan Roofener was born on August 28, 1922 in Ha Ha Tonka, Missouri. He died on December 30, 2014 at Lake Regional Health Center, Osage Beach, Missouri. Wallace was the devoted and loving husband of his childhood sweetheart Clovine Sidwell, daughter of Charles and Millie Sidwell of Camdenton, Missouri. They were united in marriage on May 11, 1941 and celebrated 69 years of married life at the time of Clovine�s death on May 27, 2010. On December 30, 1942, Wallace began active duty as radioman 2nd class, assigned to the Admiral�s Flag in the United States Navy during WWII. The vessels on which he served were the USS Esssex, USS Bunker Hill, USS Yorktown, USS Hancock, USS Lexington, USS Wasp, and the USS Bennington. He was honorably discharged November 7, 1945. Together Wallace and Clovine raised their children Cheryl Beth Olson of St. Louis, Missouri, Rance Charles Roofener of Key West, Florida, and John Wallace Roofener of Urich, Missouri. Wallace was the beloved Paw Paw to six grandchildren, Heather Elizabeth, Amanda Rae, Matthew Alan, Sydni Clovine, Alexx Elise, and Mackenzie Chance. He is also survived by his sisters Ilagean (Geanie) Blair of Osage Beach, Missouri, and Ann Blansett of Roach, Missouri. He leaves a large extended family of relatives and friends. Wallace�s love of the outdoors started at an early age tagging along with his father as well as hunting and fishing with his dogs Buster and Pooch. Throughout his life he continued to be an avid sportsman, fishing the upper Midwest, Canada, Lake Michigan and the Florida Keys. The last five years he enjoyed crappie fishing here at the Lake of the Ozarks. Wherever he wet a hook, he was happy. Wallace was preceded in death by his sisters Lillian Faye Cunningham and Bertha Roam.
