Obituary of Joseph Elroy Miller
Joseph Elroy Miller, Osage Beach Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Lakeside Meadows Retirement Center. He was born in Grand Junction Colorado on April 29, 1928, a son of Clifford and Jesse Miller, who preceded him in death.
Even though Joe suffered with the devastating disease of Alzheimer's for the last 15 years of his life, he still found a way to smile, to appreciate what others did for him, and to let his family know that a part of his brain still understood their words to him. He was a resident of Lakeside Meadows, as eventually, home care was no longer an option.
Joe proudly served his country in World War II and in the Korean War. He will be buried with full military honors.
This year marked 50 years for Joe as a member in good standing with the American Legion #43 AF & AM (the Veterans of Foreign War), and the Masonic Lodge in Jefferson City Missouri.
His career in culinary excellence took him to Mobile Alabama, Kansas City Missouri, Springfield Missouri, Jefferson City Missouri, and lastly to Marriotts, Tan-Tar-A resort in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Joe was a very loving husband, and often he and Dee were told that they were the cutest couple ever. He also dearly loved his family, his longtime friends, and his caretakers at Lakeside Meadows. He was fond of his ice cream and sweets, and Dean Martin's variety of music, including Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime. He loved spending time outdoors, meticulously paying attention to growing beautiful flowers and creating the perfect yard.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at Lakeside Meadows For all of the years of devotion, love, and care for him when we no longer could. In the end, you truly were his extended family".
Joe is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Laleen R.Miller, (Dee); daughter, Donna L Schrimpf Gum and Martin L. Gum, son in law, both of Four Seasons, Missouri ; one Grandson, Matthew J Schrimpf, and Kristi Schrimpf, both of Osage Beach Missouri; and two small great grandchildren: Harper Lorraine Schrimpf and Layne Matthew Schrimpf.
Joe is now free! He will be whole again to be our angel. We love our Husband, Grandpa, and my Daddy Joe.
