Obituary of James Vernon Johnson

James Vernon Johnson was born January 16, 1926 in Eagle City, Oklahoma, the son of James (Jim) and Sophie White Johnson. He passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Colonial Springs Care Center in Buffalo, Missouri. Vernon served in the army with CoB 20th Armored Division in France and Germany during World War II. Vernon returned home in 1946 and married his High School Sweetheart Dovie Hicks and they shared 68 loving years together. They moved to Kansas City where he spent 30 years working for the Gas Service Company before retiring to Macks Creek where he lived for 28 years. Vernon enjoyed fishing and also loved turkey hunting which he looked forward to each year and spent many hours on the rivers and lakes fishing. He loved spending time with his two granddaughters on the river and playing games with them. Vernon spent many hours studying his Bible and working puzzles. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Edgar and Melvin Ray; and three sisters, Annabelle Jones, Helen Riser, and Daisy Tice. Survivors include his wife Dovie; two sons, Larry and wife, Deborah Johnson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Garry Johnson of Raytown, Missouri; two granddaughters, Sarah and husband, Justin Christian of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Ashley and husband, Slick Shelley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren, Ryder James and Callie Elizabeth Christian, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Emmett and wife, Cookie Johnson, of Camdenton, Missouri and Harold Morgan and wife, Dorothy, of Preston, Missouri; along with many other family members and friends.
