Obituary of Douglas W. Dragert

Douglas Willard "Doug" Dragert, age 70, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Camden County. Doug was born July 10, 1945 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Willard Lewis Dragert and Agnes (Dorr) Dragert. Douglas graduated from Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, Kansas. He attended St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas and later completed Criminal Justice courses at the University of Louisville. Douglas joined the United States Army in 1966. He received basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri, AIT training at Ft. Gordon in Georgia, and jungle warfare school and counter insurgency school at Ft. Benning in Georgia. Doug was subsequently deployed to Vietnam with the 552nd Military Police Company also known as the "boat people". He served in Vietnam until 1967 and received the Purple Heart Medal. Doug received an Honorable Discharge from the Army at the rank of Sergeant E-5 and was awarded the following: Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Emblem, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ two Bronze Service Stars; Marksman Badge w/pistol Bar, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm unit Citation Badge and Republic of Vietnam Campaign ribbon w/ Device. Doug subsequently served as Field Sergeant with the Overland Park, Kansas Police Department. He coached youth boxing and became a member of the coaching staff of heavy weight champion Tommy "The Duke" Morrison. In his leisure time, Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating, shooting and reading. He was an old car enthusiast and a member of the FunRunners Car Club. Douglas Dragert, a disabled Vietnam Veteran, is survived by his wife Maggie Dragert; his son Jay Dragert and wife, Molly; grandsons Logan and Lucas Dragert; daughter Denise Stanfa and husband, Paul; granddaughter Kate Mongold and her father Tom Mongold; three stepdaughters, Christine O'Dea, Leslie Kinney Kerr, and Holly Bricken; and granddaughter Chloe Bricken.
