Obituary of Judith L. Grimes

Judith Louise Pies Grimes, age 77 of Lake Ozark, Missouri passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Lake Regional Health Center in Osage Beach, Missouri. Judi was born February 25, 1938 in Bonne Terre, Missouri. She is the daughter of Edward G. Pies and Louise (Shannon) Pies, and the granddaughter of Dr. Charles Wesley Shannon, M.D. and Hulda (Stephens) Shannon. Judi was raised and went to school in Flat River Missouri where she graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class of 1955. She decided to make a career in nursing and chose St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing in St Louis to accomplish that goal. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1958. She began her practice at Children's Hospital in St Louis, Missouri, becoming Assistant Head Nurse of the Metabolism Unit. Later she took the position of Head Nurse of the Private Doctors Office and assisted with the Southwest Cancer Chemotherapy Study Group for Children at Washington University based at Children's Hospital. On September 12, 1959 she was married to Byron H Grimes, and together they shared nearly 56 years together. In addition to her husband who survives at the home, she is survived by their son Brent H Grimes of Gilbert AZ, his wife Julie and grandsons Bryce and Justin; son Bradford H Grimes and granddaughters Haley and McKenzie of Kansas City, Missouri. In 1971 Byron and Judi decided to move to Lake Of The Ozarks, and created TriCo Dock Center and TriCo Realty. Judi assisted with the dock business until they sold it in 1982. In 1986 she accepted the position of Director of Nurses at the Osage Beach Health Care Center, a 120 bed facility. In 1990 Lake Regional Hospital asked her to establish the new Skilled Nursing Facility in the hospital. She supervised the unit until 1995, and for the next year worked in home health, then returned to long term care as Director of Nurses at the Eldon Healthcare facility. She served there in a variety of positions until retiring in 2002. Judi and Byron enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Florida. They traveled in their 5th wheel RV visiting 29 states plus Canada and Mexico. She particularly delighted in spending time with the grandkids..
