Obituary of Michael L. Thompson
Michael L. Thompson, 86, of Osage Beach, Missouri, departed this life Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Osage Beach Rehabilitation and Health Care in Osage Beach.
Michael was born April 12, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Roscoe and Gladys (Stevens) Thompson.
He was united in marriage December 30, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri to Muriel Rau. Together they enjoyed nearly 65 years of marriage.
Michael and Muriel relocated to Lake of the Ozarks in 1987 after Michael's retirement from Northern Illinois University. He taught there as a professor for 27 years. After his retirement, Michael loved living the lake life where he enjoyed boating, fishing and doing yard work. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading novels. More than anything, Michael cherished his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Michael was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Camdenton, Missouri.
Michael is survived by his wife Muriel; four sons, Michael Thompson and wife, Molly, of Champagne, Illinois, Dennis Thompson and wife, Elaine, of Linn Creek, Missouri, Timothy Thompson and wife, Dana, of Midlothian, Texas, and Christopher Thompson of Milton, Florida; three daughters, Rebecca Estenssoro of Naperville, Illinois, Nancy Moline and husband, David, of Washington, Illinois, and Jennifer Keen and husband, Ron, of South Elgin, Illinois; one brother, Jerry Thompson and wife, Marie, of Camdenton, Missouri; one sister, Judy Tannehill and husband, Leon, of Utah; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren along with several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roscoe and Gladys Thompson; one son, Mark Thompson; his brothers, Earl, Carl, Ray, and Ralph; and sisters Sally Cornish and Peggy Geringer.
