Obituary of Gary Ray Cheevers
Gary Ray Cheevers, 73, of Tunas, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in Buffalo, Missouri.
Gary was born November 3, 1942 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Howard Edwin and Pearl Irene (Foust) Cheevers.
Gary spent his childhood in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. In the spring of 1958, he went to work with his Dad paving city streets for Booth and Olson Construction Company. On May 21, 1962, he married Dorothy Evangeline Harris at the Riverside Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa. He went to work for Ben Turner Construction where he worked for 33 years. After retiring from Turner's he started his own company in 1996 and named it Gary Cheevers Backhoe. Gary loved hunting, fishing, motorcycles, car racing and guns. He was a quiet, soft spoken man who adored his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They made memories to last a lifetime.
Gary is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy; four brothers, Larry, Porky, Dutchie and Digger; two sisters, Suzy and Kelly; two sons, Rob and wife, Penny, and John and wife, Lori; one daughter, Penny and husband, Steve; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Josh, Kacie, Lacie, Dillon, Heidi and Clay; eleven great-grandchildren, Emerson, Fynlee, Delaney, Nora, Avery, Ruthie, Lily, James, Riley, Sullivan and Alissa; and treasured nieces and nephews too numerous to count.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard "Dutch" and Pearl Cheevers; his father-in-law, Leonard Harris; and sisters-in-law, Nora Neely and Sandra Rettelle.
