Obituary of Bessie Mae Williams
Bessie Mae Williams (née Carr) of Lake Ozark, Missouri passed away Friday,
January 22, 2016 on her 32nd wedding anniversary.
Born December 22, 1923, Bessie was raised in Macon, Illinois the youngest of four
children. As an adult she moved to the city, where she excelled in the
hospitality business, becoming the first woman hotel manager in Chicago.
After relocating to Los Angeles, she continued her career as an executive
assistant at a large western insurance company. It is there she met and
married Jack, the love of her life.
Retirement brought them to the lake, a location where she vacationed as a
child. She enjoyed crafting, cooking and baking cookies. She was known to
many as the 'Cookie Lady' as she shared her delicious treats with just about
anyone she met, including the members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the
Boy Scouts where Jack was active for many years. She found profound joy in
cooking and feeding others, and you would never leave her home hungry.
She is survived by her husband Jack Williams, son Michael Lumbard and wife
Susan, stepchildren Carol Windover, Michael Williams, David Williams and
wife Moy, Peter Williams and wife Tina; grandchildren Austin, Rachel,
Russell, Dana, Erin, John, Kayla, Fred, Charlotte; and 5 great
