Obituary of Larry Daly

Harry L. Daly, Jr., age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, in the Serenity Suite at Lake Regional Health System. He was born on August 20, 1933, in Savanna, IL to Harry L. Daly, Sr., and Eileen G. (Hummel) Daly. On June 9, 2011, he was united in marriage to Connie (Martin) Daly. Larry graduated from Winnebago High School in Winnebago, IL. During this time he was awarded his Eagle Scout badge. Larry served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 and served his country during the Korean War. He was a Field Radio Mechanic, in the Battery C 50th Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Unit and was later sent for training in Biological and Radiological Defense. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Ribbon. After he served his country he attended college and received his Mechanical Engineering degree. One of his first jobs was with National Loch in Rockford, IL. After a few years Larry began his own business by manufacturing and selling boats, and during this time raced boats for Mercury Motors. Later, Larry decided to start another venture by building truck hoods for semi-trucks. He was a self-made man and entrepreneur in his own right. Larry was a member of the Elks Lodge, #2715 in Osage Beach, MO and a member of the Moose Lodge, #1619 in Port Charlotte, FL. Larry enjoyed riding his motorcycles and traveling in their motorhome with his wife, Connie. They traveled the west coast, east coast and up into Canada visiting friends along the way. In addition to his wife Connie he was survived by his children Gregg Daly and wife Amy, of Camdenton, MO; Jeff Daly and his wife Delores of O’Fallon, MO; and Robin Cook of Osage Beach, MO; step-children, Tammy Christianson, James Funk, Susan Horsman; his grandchildren, Chad Daly, James Daly, and Brooke Daly; step-grandchildren; Jake Tuley, Ashley Tuley, Spencer Tuley, Tyler Funk, Maddie Funk, A.J. Porter, Sarah Porter; and one great-grandchild, Zander Daly; brothers, George Daly and wife Barbara of Clarksburg, CA, Dennis Daly and wife Georgeanne of Winnebago, IL; sisters, Jane Bier of Dardenne, MO, Dorothy Ivens and husband John of Mt. Horeb, WI, Kathy Hoffman and husband Mike of Rockford, IL.Larry is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a number of uncles and aunts.
