Obituary of Walter Peterson

Walter “Wally” Petersen of Osage Beach, Missouri, formerly from Waukegan, Illinois, passed away on April 15, 2016, surrounded by family. He was born as the youngest of six children on October 22, 1932, to John and Anna (Jorgensen) Petersen. He retired from United States Steel Corporation in 1982, and moved to Osage Beach where he recently celebrated 44 years of marriage with his wife Ann. During many of his years in Osage Beach, Walter enjoyed working security at The Lodge of Four Seasons Marina. As a young adult Walter was proud to serve with the U.S. Army Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division; Fort Bragg North Carolina and Fort Benning Georgia, where he received training as a paratrooper. Walter had a passion for the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Scoutmaster for many years. He was proud of his wood carvings, was a creative handyman, gardener, electrician, and mason. He had a strong tenor voice and enjoyed singing. Walter is survived by his wife Ann; his children, Theresa Ullmayer (Walter) of Alaska; Dan Petersen of Florida; his grandchildren, Joseph McQuerry, Danielle Petersen, and Claressa Ullmayer; brother, Carl Petersen (Jan) of Illinois; sister, Lucille Mahncke of Missouri; sister-in-law, Ilse Petersen of Missouri; brothers-in-law, John and Richard Quindry of Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Walter also leaves behind special angels to he and Ann and these include Natosha Marcum, January Meyer, and Stephanie Mulholland, all of Missouri. Walter was preceded in death by his and Ann’s parents; his daughter, Deborah ; brothers, William (Grace); Ingolf; and Robert; brother-in-law, Robert Mahncke; niece, Ilona Petersen; and numerous other relatives and friends.
