Obituary of Robert L. Van Hook
Robert L. (Bob) Van Hook, Sr., age 77, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at his home in Camdenton.
Bob was born October 24, 1938 in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of Louis and Mary Hazel (Shaffer) Van Hook.
He was united in marriage October 21, 1961 in Bloomington, Illinois to Bonnie Belford. They shared 54 1/2 loving years together at the time of his death.
Bob was a long-time resident of the lake area where he owned and operated several well-known businesses including Van Hook Bait & Tackle, which opened in 1969, Van Hook's Seafood, opened in 1985, and Ozark Swing Company that ran for 5 years. Bob loved the outdoors, especially when spending time at the farm, watching his cattle. He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and cooking, and hanging out with his beloved dog Sammy.
More than anything, his greatest joy in life was his family, and he always said that his grandchildren were more like his children to him.
Bob is survived by his wife Bonnie of the home; his son Robert L. Van Hook, Jr and wife, Cindy, of Osage Beach, Missouri; brothers Paul Van Hook of Bloomington, Illinois, Edgar Van Hook and wife Karen of Bloomington, Illinois, and Steve Van Hook and wife, Natalja, of Linn Creek, Missouri; sisters Linda Mehl and Susan Darnall and husband, Ron, all of Bloomington, Illinois; five grandchildren Katie McKinnon and husband William, Amber Myers and husband Eric, Robert Van Hook III, Chelsey Shinn and husband Jon, and Kashea Van Hook; ten great-grandchildren, Rocky, Gracie, Kelsey, Parker, Landen, Maelie, Carson, Reese, Clara, and Hadley; along with several other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Mary Van Hook; and three brothers, Jim, Donald, and Phillip.
