Obituary of Betty Gale Whitworth
Betty Gale Whitworth (Hodge) was born February 26, 1939 in San Angelo, TX and passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in her home in Macks Creek, MO surrounded by family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Larry T. Whitworth, grandson James P. Hawkins, parents Carl Hodge and Orvella (Banta) Hodge, sister Dona K. Varner, and brother Ronnie C. Hodge (Rocky).
Survived by three children L. Lynn Whitworth of Macks Creek, MO, D'Ann Hawkins (Whitworth) of Macks Creek, MO, Susan G. Willis (Whitworth) and her husband Danny of Macks Creek, MO; four grandchildren Brooke Wolfe (Skinner) and husband Josh of Climax Springs, MO, Casey Cox (Hawkins) and husband Zach of Urbana, MO, Holly Webster (Willis) and husband Joe of Macks Creek, MO, Tyler Willis and wife Hallie of Macks Creek, MO; five great-grandchildren Abigale Wolfe, Ava Wolfe, Cooper Wolfe, Rush Cox, and Scarlett Webster; three sisters Alana Murphy of Crane, TX, Mary McCutchen and husband Eddie of Winnsboro, TX, Sharon Henry of Camdenton, MO, one sister in law Janie Sue Henderson (Whitworth) and husband Harold of Bolivar, MO, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Betty lost her mother and brother at age 11 in an auto accident. Her family later moved from Texas to Missouri where Betty graduated high school from Macks Creek and married her husband Larry in 1957. They raised their children on the family dairy farm. Betty was very close to her in-laws Doc and Edith Whitworth whom she referred to as Granny and PaPa. She started work for the U.S. Postal Service and worked in Macks Creek, Branch, Buffalo and retired as Post Master of Roach after 32 years.
Quilting was a favorite hobby and she made several for family and friends. She and Larry traveled many places in their fifth wheel and enjoyed seeing the country. Betty always made holidays and birthdays special for everyone. She was a great cook who loved feeding anyone that came to her home. She was a kind, generous woman who was loved by many.
Betty was a Christian and saved at the age of 12 in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, and Nano and will be missed by all who knew her.
