Obituary of Henry Canon

Henry Canon, age 87, of Roach, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri. He was born March 30, 1929 near Branch, Missouri, the son of Clarence and Mona Eidson Canon. Henry was saved at age 17 during a revival at Montgomery School. He was raised on a farm and served a short term in the US Army. After being discharged, he worked farm jobs including ranch work in the state of Nevada. Upon returning to Missouri, he was employed with Stamper Foods in Marshall, Missouri, until 1965, when he returned to care for his mother after the passing of his dad. At that time, he worked in construction and was later employed by Donald Stoufer, building homes until failing health forced him into retirement at age 78 in 2007. Henry was united in marriage August 17, 1985 to Joretta ( Stoufer) Hammer and inherited five children which he claimed as his own. Henry thoroughly enjoyed the farming life. He loved horses and cattle and took great pride in caring for them. More than anything though, Henry loved his family. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, and a caring father and grandfather to his step- children and their families. He was loved and will be greatly missed. Henry is survived by his wife of 31 years, Joretta; his step-son, Jimmy Hammer of Flemington, Missouri; his step-daughters, Brenda Scott of Weaubleau, Missouri, Karen McCaslin and husband, Rick, of Bolivar, Missouri, Connie Charlton and husband, Tommy, of Macks Creek, Missouri, and Patricia Eidson and husband, Stephen, of Roach, Missouri; thirteen step-grandchildren; seventeen step-great-grandchildren, and two step great-great- grandchildren; along with other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Mona Canon; his brothers, Virgil, Morris, Oren, and Clay; and his sisters, Vivian Gregory, Waneta Charlton, and Helen Willis.
